The event aims to offer presentations and panel discussions that highlight the latest design and construction techniques using deep foundations and/or ground improvement for challenging ground conditions, slope/slide and excavation support projects. Presentations relevant to the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes regions are encouraged.

DFI is soliciting presentations for S3 2025 on:

  • Anchored Earth Retention
  • Drilled Shafts
  • Ground Improvement
  • International Grouting
  • Landslides and Slope Stabilization
  • Information Management Systems
  • Risk and Contracts
  • Slurry Walls
  • Soil Mixing
  • Subsurface Characterization for Deep Foundations
  • Sustainability
  • Testing and Evaluation
  • Tunneling and Underground

Topics and case studies, including (but not limited to):

  • Designing and constructing safely and effectively in urban environments (e.g., dealing with utilities/tunnels, working adjacent to historic structures, proximity to existing structures, etc.)
  • Marine projects (dock walls, shoreline stabilization/hardening, cofferdams, shipyards, levees, etc.)
  • Access shafts/excavations for tunnels
  • Transportation projects (road, rail, air or water)
  • Natural resource and agriculture projects (mining, oil/gas well pads, tank support, dams, etc.)
  • Latest techniques and tools for testing and monitoring
  • Advances in ground improvement standards, codes, design, construction and quality control/ assurance (rigid inclusions, aggregate columns, grouting, mixing, etc.)
  • Project delivery challenges (schedule, logistics, contracts, access, etc.)
  • Developments or unique solutions for slope nailing and stabilization
  • Projects involving challenging soil and/or groundwater conditions (e.g., karst, artesian, glacial, etc.)
  • Challenges or unique aspects of projects covering a large area (e.g., data centers, distribution centers, etc.)
