Entertainment
The Manhattan University Jazz Ensemble will join us again this year as our featured entertainment. We look forward to their musical styling setting a great atmosphere for the evening!
The small jazz groups at Manhattan University are derived from their large jazz ensemble, a traditionally configured "big band" made up of saxes, trumpets, trombones and rhythm section. Jazz Band director, Professor Geoff Mattoon, founded the small groups in the Spring of 2014 to accommodate the interests and talents of instrumentalists seeking an advanced level of improvisation and stylistic interpretation. Small jazz groups not only allow for more improvising, but essentially give each member a solo voice in the ensemble. Soon after its inception, the small groups started out playing at college events such as receptions, formal dinners, and welcoming events such as open house and accepted student days.
Before long, the groups were being asked to play at professional engagements off campus. In addition to their work with the Deep Foundations Institute, an international association of corporate and individual geotechnical professionals, the small groups have performed for the Bronx Borough President's Office, numerous weddings, private parties and receptions in the New York area.
Attire
The attire for the evening is Semi-Formal.
